DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Samford quarterback Devlin Hodges and defensive lineman Ahmad Gooden will compete in the SPIRAL Tropical Bowl on Sunday morning at Daytona Beach Municipal Stadium.

The game is scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 13, at 9 a.m. (CT). The SPIRAL Tropical Bowl showcases the top college football seniors to NFL scouts and general managers who travel from around the country to the event. The weekend is focused on scouting, teaching and football. The Inaugural 2016 game was held at FIU/FIU North Stadium and the 2017 SPIRAL Tropical Bowl in cooperation with the City of Daytona Beach moved to Daytona Beach Municipal Stadium and has since returned.

Hodges, the 2018 Walter Payton Award winner and consensus All-American, set a school record for single-season passing yards, throwing for 4,283 yards this season. He also became the all-time leader in career passing yards in FCS history. His 14,584 career passing yards broke the old FCS national record of 14,496, set by Steve McNair at Alcorn State from 1991-94. Hodges had six games this season in which he threw for at least 400 yards.

Gooden posted an impressive 15.0 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks this season. He had 49 total tackles, 12 quarterback hurries and four pass break-ups. He also recovered two fumbles, returning one for a 58-yard touchdown at Furman. Gooden has been named to multiple All-America teams since the conclusion of the 2018 season.

Mercer senior wide receiver Marquise Irvin will also compete in the SPIRAL Tropical Bowl.
