The Citadel grabs two wins at JDL Team Challenge

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Citadel track and field teams concluded competition in the JDL College Team Challenge this Thursday evening with a pair of first-place finishes.

Devin Merrick took home first place in the pole vault with a personal record of 4.55 meters (14 feet, 11 inches) and earned the No. 3 spot in program history. Trey McClary won the 800-meter run with a time of 1:59.43. Trey Richardson took second in the 400 with a time of 50.64. Richardson would also go on to place fifth overall in the 200-meter run – won by former Western Carolina Catamount and Olympic gold medalist Manteo Mitchell – with a mark of 23.12.

Kenya Pinckney was second in the high jump with a leap of 1.90 meters (6 feet, 2 3/4 inches). Jalon Williams notched a third-place finish in the weight with a toss of 15.43 meters (50 feet, 7 1/2 inches). Timiebi Ogobri was fourth collegiately in the 60-meter run while also taking sixth overall in the 200m.

For the women, Jessy Page took the third spot in the weight toss with a season best mark of 15.58 meters (51 feet, 1 1/2 inches). Freshman Mya Dollard placed fifth in the high jump with a person-record leap of 1.55 meters (5 feet, 1 inch), which earned her the No. 3 spot in program history in only her fourth meet as a Bulldog.

Amber Opp finished third in the 3,000-meter run, while Casey Miller ran a new PR in the 800m with a time of 2:26.62 to take fifth.

The Bulldogs will head to Columbia, South Carolina, on Saturday, Feb. 16, to participate in the USC Open.
