AUSTIN, Texas – Furman senior Aaron Templeton earned honorable mention All-American honors in the 5,000-meter run Friday at the 2019 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Austin, Texas.

A native of Knoxville, Tennessee, Templeton posted a time of 14:24.41 to finish 17th in the event finals, concluding an illustrious collegiate career for the Paladins. The 2018-19 Furman Male Athlete of the Year, Templeton qualified for the postseason after setting a program record of 13:39.39 in the event at the Cardinal Classic.

Earlier in the week, he earned honorable mention All-American accolades in the 10,000-meter run. Templeton posted a time of 28:27.85 to establish a new program record in the event at the Raleigh Relays and ranked among the nation’s leaders in both the 5,000m and 10,000m throughout the outdoor season.

The 2017 and 2018 Southern Conference Cross Country Runner of the Year, Templeton earned All-American honors after placing fifth at the 2018 NCAA Cross Country Championships last fall.

The outdoor championship meet will conclude on Saturday, when Paladin junior Gabbi Jennings will compete in the finals of the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase at 6:54 p.m.

A native of Slidell, Louisiana, Jennings set a program record with a time of 9:47.84 to take second place in Thursday’s semifinals. She shattered the Paladin record of 9:52.71, which sophomore Krissy Gear set at last year’s preliminaries. An All-American in the event in 2018, Jennings won her heat and placed third overall at the NCAA East Preliminaries to reach the semifinals. She scored a 20th-place finish at last year’s championship meet. Also on Thursday, Gear finished 15th with a time of 10:15.07 in the event, earning second-team All-American honors.

In Wednesday’s opening day, junior Ryan Adams earned second-team All-American honors in the 1,500-meter run to pace the Paladins. He finished seventh in his heat and 16th overall with a time of 3:47.21. Seniors Frank Lara and Templeton garnered honorable mention All-American citations in the 10,000m. A three-time All-American in the event, Lara ran among the leaders during the race and finished 17th with a time of 30:09.94, while Templeton posted a time of 31:00.58 for 22nd place.

The top eight finishers in each event at the meet are deemed first-team All-Americans, with finishers nine through 16 earning second-team All-American accolades. Honorable mention All-American citations are bestowed on athletes who finish in 17th through 24th place.

The final day of action will be televised on ESPN with network coverage starting at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.
