HIGH POINT, N.C. – Behind 46 kills and seven aces, High Point swept Furman on Sunday afternoon in the Paladins' final game of the 2019 High Point Invitational. The win moves the Panthers to 2-5 on the year, while the loss drops the Paladins to 0-6.
Furman was led by Neci Harris with eight kills on the day, while Nicole Mack put down six. Freshman libero Andrea Aceveda turned in 18 digs.
The Panthers used an early 4-0 run to take a quick 6-2 lead in the first set, before Furman cut the lead to one at 8-7. High Point then rattled off seven-straight points and the Paladins would get no closer than five, falling 25-17 in set one. An early 4-0 run proved to be the difference in set two, as the Panthers took a 2-0 match lead, winning set two 25-18. The two teams traded points early in the third, until High Point grabbed an 18-13 lead. Furman rallied with a 5-0 run to tie the set, but later, with the score tied at 20, High Point used a 4-0 run to put the match out of reach, winning the third 25-21 and the match, 3-0.
High Point was led by Madison Smith with 14 kills and four aces, while Kaley Rammelsberg turned in three blocks and Abby Bottomley matched Aceveda with 18 digs.
Furman is back in action on Friday, September 13, taking on Elon at 7:00 p.m. in Elon, N.C., before traveling to Winston-Salem, N.C., to take on Wake Forest on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
