
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman forward Clay Mounce was named the Southern Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week presented by GEICO for all contests from Nov. 26 to Dec. 2 after averaging a double-double in a 2-1 week. The award is selected by the league office.
Mounce opened his week with 20 points, seven rebounds and a career-best five steals in the Paladins’ 97-61 win at Elon on Nov. 26 in the Bad Boy Mowers Battle 4 Atlantis. Mounce hit a season-high six 3-pointers in the contest, also adding three assists. The junior from Elkin, North Carolina, turned in his first double-double of the season the following day, scoring 14 points and grabbing 12 rebounds in a 58-57 neutral-court win over UT Arlington, adding three more steals in Furman’s tournament finale.
Mounce capped his week with another double-double, again scoring 14 points and pulling down 12 boards in Furman’s 65-55 loss at South Florida on Monday. He added three steals and two assists.
For the week, Mounce averaged 16.0 points, 10.3 rebounds, 3.7 steals and 2.0 assists per game.
Furman (7-2) visits No. 14 Auburn on Thursday before beginning a three-game homestand on Sunday when it hosts USC Upstate.
