For the 17th consecutive season, the Southern Conference Baseball Tournament will be held in Charleston, SC. The Tournament is held at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park on the campus of The Citadel.
All 10 teams qualify for the 2006 tournament, with a double-elimination format taking place after two games on the first day of play. Tournament play begins on Tuesday, May 23 with two games scheduled at noon and 3:30 p.m. On Wednesday, May 24 four games are scheduled daily at 10 am, 1 pm, 4 pm and 7:30 through Friday, May 26. The championship game is scheduled for Saturday, May 27 unless the loser’s bracket team forces a final game on Sunday, May 28.
Located on the banks of the Ashley River, the $19.5 million state of the art ballpark opened in 1997 giving The Citadel and The Southern Conference one of the top collegiate baseball facilities in the nation. With seating for 6,000, Riley Park is named after the long-time Charleston mayor who is a 1964 graduate of The Citadel. It was rated the 20th best collegiate baseball park in the country in 2003 by Baseball America.
Riley Park also serves as the home of the Class A Charleston River Dogs, a South Atlantic League affiliate of the New York Yankees.
The single-game tournament attendance record of 5,419 was set in 2003 for an opening round game between The Citadel and the College of Charleston. The all-tournament attendance record was set in 2004 when more than 35,000 fans attended Riley Park, an average of 2,343 per game. Over 320,000 patrons have attended the 16 previous SoCon Baseball Tournaments held in Charleston.

Review of the 2005 Championship
Eighth-seeded Furman used a four-run fifth inning to edge out second-seeded Georgia Southern 5-4 in the championship game in 2005. The Paladins become the first #8 seed to win the baseball tournament. Nick Holstegge picked up the save for Furman, earning the Walk Nadzak Most Outstanding Player award.
