Today is day four of the Southern Conference’s 10-day preview leading up to the induction ceremony on May 4 of the inaugural 10 inductees in the 2009 SoCon Hall of Fame class. The ceremony will be held at 7 p.m. (EDT) at the Chapman Cultural Center in Spartanburg, S.C., where the conference office is located.


Today’s highlighted inductee is North Carolina football player Charlie “Choo Choo” Justice.

A two-time All-American, Justice was the 1948 National Player of the Year and helped the Tar Heels earn three bowl bids during his four years in Chapel Hill. He was the runner-up for the Heisman Trophy in 1948 and 1949. Justice was a four-time first team all-conference selection and was named the Southern Conference Player of the Year in 1948 and 1949.

  • Ran or threw for 64 career touchdowns, compiling 4,883 total yards
