College of Charleston (39-17, 20-7) claimed the No. 1 seed for the 2007 Southern Conference Baseball Tournament. Western Carolina (40-16, 20-7), which finished in a tie with the Cougars for the regular-season crown, earned the No. 2 seed. College of Charleston won the tie-breaker having defeated the Catamounts all three times during the regular season.

 

The double-elimination tournament opens on Tuesday, May 22 at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park in Charleston, S.C. All 10 teams qualified for the tournament which features a double-elimination format that culminates in the championship game on Saturday, May 26.

 

The first game will feature No. 8 seed Furman (19-35, 11-16) vs. No. 9 seed Wofford (25-31, 8-19). No. 7 seed The Citadel (30-25, 12-15) will take on No. 10 seed Davidson (19-33, 8-19) in first round single-elimination games.

 

No. 4 seed Appalachian State (32-24, 14-13) will play No. 5 seed UNC Greensboro (28-28, 14-13) at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 23. The Mountaineers beat the Spartans twice to close out the regular season. No. 1 seed College of Charleston will play the winner of Furman/Wofford at 1:00 p.m. No. 2 seed Western Carolina against the winner of The Citadel/Davidson contest and No. 3 seed Elon (29-27, 15-12) takes on No. 6 seed Georgia Southern (33-26, 13-14).

 

The single-game tournament attendance record of 5,419 was set in 2003 for an opening round game between The Citadel and the College of Charleston. The all-tournament attendance record was set in 2004 when more than 35,000 fans attended Riley Park, an average of 2,343 per game. Over 350,000 patrons have attended the 17 previous SoCon Baseball Tournaments held in Charleston.

 

College of Charleston topped The Citadel, 5-4, to win the 2006 Southern Conference Championship. The Cougars earned the league’s automatic NCAA tournament berth and Elon earned an at-large bid.
