SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Kym Coley, a junior middle hitter on the Georgia Southern volleyball team, has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for Sept. 4, the league office announced Wednesday.
Coley holds a 4.0 GPA and majors in biology. She was a preseason all-conference selection in 2013.
The Aiken, S.C., native was named all-tournament at the Jaguar Invitational over the weekend, helping the Eagles take the tournament title. Coley averaged 2.83 kills and 1.08 blocks per set to lead the Eagles to a 3-1 start to the season. She had 34 kills in 56 attempts with just three errors for a .554 hitting percentage.
Other nominees included Appalachian State cross country runner Kayla Schneider, Citadel soccer player Mariana Garcia, Davidson cross country runner Daniel Samet, Samford volleyball player Michaela Reesor, Western Carolina volleyball player Addy George and Wofford volleyball player Amanda Liguori.
