SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Christina Dorismond, a senior middle blocker on the Furman volleyball team, has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for Sept. 11, the league office announced Wednesday.

Dorismond is a native of Cary, N.C., and sports a 3.987 GPA while majoring in chemistry.

Dorismond recorded a career-high 23 kills in Furman’s first-ever win over South Carolina on Saturday. She hit .426 with three blocks in the Paladins’ 3-1 victory over the Gamecocks. Dorismond was named to the Big Orange Bash All-Tournament team after recording 50 kills, a .370 hitting percentage and seven blocks in three matches over the weekend. In four games last week, she tallied 56 kills, a .363 hitting percentage and eight blocks.

Other nominees included Appalachian State football player Tony Washington, Citadel football player Brandon McCladdie, Elon men’s soccer player Nathan Dean, Georgia Southern football player Garrett Frye, UNCG men’s soccer player David Reittinger, Samford volleyball player Michaela Reesor, Chattanooga cross country runner Lucas Cotter and Western Carolina volleyball player Jordan Timmermann.
