FROHNLEITEN, Austria – Mercer rising senior women’s golfer Karina Kukkonen was selected to the Finland National Team for the upcoming 2018 European Ladies’ Team Championship, hosted by the European Golf Association (EGA) on July 10-14.
The tournament will be played at the Golf Club of Murhof in Austria, which owns an international reputation after hosting multiple championships (European Young Masters ’04, ’05, ’06; European Men’s Championships, European Challenge Tour, European Ladies Tour and the IELAC 2015).
Kukkonen, who played in the 2017 championship before transferring to Mercer, has been a member of the Finland National Team since 2009. She earned a silver medal in the 2014 European Team Championship and is a seven-time Finnish Amateur Champion, having won five titles in stroke play and another two in match play.
Kukkonen played 25 rounds over nine events for the Bears during the 2017-18 season. She averaged 77.56 strokes per round and had a season-best finish of 22nd at the Southern Conference Championship on April 15-17.
Finland is one of 19 European nations registered for the championship tournament. Kukkonen and the Finns will begin stroke play qualification on Tuesday, July 10. Follow the live action by clicking here.
