SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Western Carolina’s outside hitter Abigail Veit has been named the General Shale Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for competition held Oct. 3-9.

The junior outside hitter helped lead the Catamounts to 3-1 victories over Furman and Wofford this past weekend. She finished the weekend with 27 kills, a team-best 37 digs and two block assists. Against Wofford, Veit set a new career high with 21 digs. Her previous career high was 20 digs against Samford on Sept. 29, 2017. The Cary, North Carolina, native also set a new season high against Wofford with 16 kills and averaged 3.38 kills and 4.62 digs on the weekend.

The outside hitter was named the Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Week for this week.

A management major with an innovation and leadership minor, Veil holds a 3.972 grade point average.

The Catamounts are back in action this weekend as they are set to take on Samford on Friday and Chattanooga on Saturday.
