Mercer's Means named Student-Athlete of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer women’s basketball player Sydni Means has been named the General Shale Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for competition held Dec. 27-Jan.2, the league office announced Wednesday.

Playing all 40 minutes, Means dished out a career-high 16 assists to go with nine points as Mercer came from behind to top North Carolina 97-86 on Thursday. Against Charlotte on Saturday, Means totaled 14 assists, six points and five rebounds as the Bears defeated the 49ers 90-74.

A communications major, Means holds a 3.360 grade point average. 

Mercer will open conference play with a pair of road games this week, traveling to Wofford on Thursday before facing Furman on Saturday. 

Also nominated for SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week: Lakelyn Bolden (Chattanooga women’s basketball) and Julia Brown (Western Carolina women’s basketball).
