SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNCG’s Nancy Bridges has been named the Southern Conference women’s tennis player of the week for all matches played March 6-12, the conference announced Tuesday.
The Shelby, North Carolina, native started the week with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Sophie Cloessner of Charleston Southern on March 9 in the No. 1 singles spot. Bridges then defeated Fernanda Navarro of 41st-ranked Clemson 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 1-0 (10-8), improving her record to 6-3 this year.
In doubles action, the junior went 1-1 last week with partner Blaine Boaz. The duo earned its first win of the season on March 9, defeating Charleston Southern’s Valeria Koussenkova and Filippa Ericson 6-4 at the No. 2 doubles position. Bridges and Boaz then dropped their match against Clemson’s No. 1 pair, Marie Leduc and Fernanda, 3-6.
UNCG returns to the court March 13 when it hosts Longwood at 2 p.m.
