SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer attacker Caitlin Smith and midfielder Lily Morin have been named the Southern Conference women’s lacrosse offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, for all competition March 6-12.
Smith scored a career-high four goals in Mercer’s 21-7 win over Presbyterian on Sunday. The sophomore from Westhampton Beach, New York, also notched a career-high five shots in the game. Smith scored one of her goals on a free position shot and added one draw control in the victory. Smith is currently tied for second in the league with 11 goals and sits in fourth overall with 18 points.
Morin had a career game from the midfield position, affecting both the offensive and defensive ends of the field. Defensively, the Marietta, Georgia, native caused two turnovers, picked up three ground balls and won two draw controls. On the offensive end, the sophomore had a career-best two goals while adding one assist. Morin is currently second on the team in ground balls with 15.
Mercer will put its 3-3 record on the line on Wednesday, hosting Louisville at 4 p.m.
