The Citadel collects wins, records at JDL

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Despite a slow start, the Bulldogs finished strong at the JDL College Team Challenge on Thursday. The team continued to break school records for indoor both in the field and on the track.

Samantha Engel finished third in the pole vault, setting another new PR of 3.30 meters (10 feet, 10 inches) to earn the second spot on the all-time list.

Amber Opp followed up by running a new PR in the 3000-meter run with a time of 10:49.68 to take sixth in the meet and earn the No. 6 spot on the all-time list.

Joie Royer also earned a fifth-place spot on the all-time list after finishing the 400-meter run with a time of 59.88. Royer also earned the No. 5 spot in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.65. Casey Miller took fourth with a PR time of 2:29.59 in the 800-meter run.

Continuing with the theme of breaking records, Tamia Burch ran a PR in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.17 to earn the No. 7 spot all-time.

Derrick Freeland continued his winning ways by placing first in the weight throw with a toss of 17.89 meters (58-8.5). Amos Jackson took fifth place in the weight with a personal-record toss of 15.22 meters (49-11.5).

Sam Blumer broke his PR in the vault to take first place with 4.40m (14-5.25) and earn the No. 4 spot on the all-time list.

Lindsay Pierce placed third in the vault with 4.10m (13-5.25), followed by Luke Vettel, who took fourth with a PR of 3.65m (11-11.75).

In the 3000m, Jamie Cunningham took third while setting a new PR of 8:50.79 to earn the nine spot on the all-time list.

The Bulldogs will have another week off to improve before heading back to Winston-Salem to compete in the UCS Invitational on Friday, Feb. 16, and Saturday, Feb. 17. Teams competing have not yet been announced.
