USILA Scholar All-Americans Announced

PERRY, N.Y. – The United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association released its 2017 Division I, II and III USILA/Nike Scholar All-Americans on Thursday afternoon.

Former High Point attackman Michael LeClair and Mercer defenseman Colin Massa and were named USILA/Nike Division I Scholar All-Americans on Wednesday, as announced by the USILA.

LeClair led the Panthers in points (31) and goals (18) while placing second on the team in assists (13). Meanwhile, the Elkridge, Maryland, product graduated with a degree in accounting while carrying an impressive 3.4 GPA.
Similarly, the attackman was a two-time captain and a participated in several community organizations including Big Brothers Big Sisters and the Salvation Army's Stuff-A-Stocking program.

Massa, who recently became Mercer's first-ever Major League Lacrosse draftee as the 81st overall pick by the Denver Outlaws, added another first for the program with the Scholar All-American honor.

A Suwanee, Georgia, native and four-year starter, Massa was named to three all-conference teams in his career (All-SoCon second team twice and All-Atlantic Sun second team once). He rounded out his career among Mercer's all-time leaders in caused turnovers (33, third), ground balls (77, seventh) and caused turnovers per game (0.66, ninth).

The USILA Scholar All-America Program was established in 1989 to recognize student-athletes from USILA member institutions who have distinguished themselves academically, athletically and as citizens of their communities. The USILA Selection Committee selects an overall team representing Division I, II and III. Their respective coaches nominate each Scholar All-American. Each must be a student with senior year academic standing and a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (4.0 scale). Candidates will have behaved in a manner that has brought credit to himself, his institution, and to college lacrosse both on and off the field. He must also be an All-American, a member of a North/South team, or an outstanding league or conference player.
