SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference named its football players of the week Monday for all games played Saturday, Oct. 26. Appalachian State quarterback Kameron Bryant was named the Offensive Player of the Week, while Chattanooga’s Muhasibi Wakeel was tabbed the Defensive Player of the Week. Western Carolina running back Garry Lewis earned the league’s Freshman of the Week honor, while his teammate, kicker Richard Sigmon, was named the Special Teams Player of the Week. The players of the week are selected by the league office.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Kameron Bryant, Appalachian State, So., QB, Cary, N.C.
Sophomore quarterback Kameron Bryant completed 27-of-33 passes for a career-high 381 yards and two touchdowns as Appalachian State knocked off Georgia Southern, 38-14. It was the third time in four starts that Bryant has completed over 80 percent of his passes. The Cary, N.C. native also rushed for two touchdowns as the Mountaineers scored on six consecutive possessions in the win.

Other Nominees: Darien Robinson (The Citadel), Andre Davis (Elon), Kevin Ellison (Georgia Southern), Chris Cephus (Samford), Jacob Huesman (Chattanooga), Karnorris Benson (Western Carolina) and Donovan Johnson (Wofford).

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Muhasibi Wakeel, Chattanooga, Jr., LB, Decatur, Ga.
Junior linebacker Muhasibi Wakeel came off the bench and recorded a game-high 17 tackles in Chattanooga’s 28-24 come-from-behind win over The Citadel. Wakeel’s 17 stops also represented a career high, as the junior had just 23 tackles on the season entering Saturday’s game. His 17 tackles were the most for a Moc since Ryan Consiglio tallied 19 against Wofford in 2011. Wakeel also recovered a fumble in the win.

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK: Garry Lewis, Western Carolina, RB, Fayetteville, N.C.
Running back Garry Lewis provided a spark for Western Carolina as the Catamounts downed Elon, 27-24, in overtime.  Lewis carried 16 times for 72 yards and caught five passes for 58 yards in the win. His 130 all-purpose yards all came after halftime.  Lewis caught all five of his passes on Western Carolina’s final drive of regulation, which culminated in a 6-yard touchdown pass from Troy Mitchell to Karnorris Benson to tie the game.

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Richard Sigmon, Western Carolina, Jr., PK/P, Mount Holly, N.C.
Junior kicker Richard Sigmon connected on two field goal attempts, including the game-winner in overtime, as Western Carolina topped Elon, 27-24. Sigmon booted a 39-yard kick in the extra session to give the Catamounts the victory. Western Carolina scored a touchdown with nine seconds left in regulation and Sigmon converted the extra point to tie the contest at 24. In addition to making both field goal attempts and three PATs, the Mount Holly, N.C., native averaged 43.5 yards on four punts, including a long of 53.
