SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The bracket for the 2013 Southern Conference Softball Championship has been finalized, and tournament action will get underway Wednesday morning at the UNCG Softball Stadium in Greensboro, N.C., the league office announced Sunday.
The 20th annual SoCon Championship is set to start Wednesday at 9:00 a.m., with No. 8-seed Elon (21-30, 8-14 SoCon) taking on No. 9-seed Samford (14-33, 6-15 SoCon) in a single elimination contest with the winner facing the 2013 regular season champion and No. 1-seed Appalachian State (30-20, 17-7 SoCon) at approximately 5:00 p.m. that afternoon. No. 2-seed College of Charleston (34-18, 15-8 SoCon) squares off with No. 7-seed Western Carolina (19-34, 9-15 SoCon) at noon in game two.
Georgia Southern (28-27, 14-9 SoCon) earned the three-seed for the tournament and will face No. 6-seed Chattanooga (26-25, 10-11 SoCon) at 2:30 p.m. The host team, No. 4-seed UNCG (35-18, 12-11 SoCon), then matches up against No. 5-seed Furman (27-25, 10-11) in the night game of the opening day, with the first pitch scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
After the opening single-elimination game, the championship moves to a double-elimination format, culminating in a winner-take-all championship game on Saturday. All game times are Eastern Standard and subject to change. The winner of the Softball Championship will receive the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA regional softball tournament.
The Appalachian State Mountaineers finished the regular season at 30-20, with a 17-7 mark in conference play, claiming its first conference title. Defending tournament champion Georgia Southern finished the regular season at 28-27, with a 14-9 mark in conference play.
Tickets will be available for purchase on site. All-session adult passes will be available for $30 while all-session youth passes (pre-kindergarten) will cost $15. Single session passes will also be available for purchase and will cost $5 for adults and $3 for youths. Groups of 10 or more will be available for $2 a person. Students at Southern Conference institutions get in free with a valid I.D.

Fans that are unable to attend will have the opportunity to view all of the games by logging on to SoConSports.com and subscribing to SoConTV. The championship game, which is slated for Saturday at 1:00 p.m., will be broadcast on ESPN3. From the first pitch to the final out, every moment of the softball action will be available, including exclusive coach and student-athlete interviews and the final awards presentation.
