SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNCG’s Lindsay Thomas and Georgia Southern’s Sarah Purvis have been named the Southern Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the week, respectively, the league announced Monday. The selections are made by the Southern Conference office.
Thomas, a freshman from Irvine, Calif., went 4-for-8 in three wins for the Spartans at the Charleston Southern Tournament. Thomas’s first career hit came against George Mason when she hit a home run in the fifth inning to put the Spartans up 1-0 in their first game of the 2013 season. She had the game-winning homer against Charleston Southern on Saturday afternoon and also had the eventual game-winning two-run blast against George Mason in the Spartan’s tournament finale. The catcher led UNCG with a .500 batting average, three runs, four hits, three home runs, and four RBIs on opening weekend. She also led the team in on-base percentage (.600) and slugging percentage (1.625).
