SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Georgia Southern senior first baseman Steve Cochrane has been named the Southern Conference Baseball Player of the Week while Appalachian State freshman Lawrence Pardo has been selected as the league's Pitcher of the Week for all games from February 21-27.
Cochrane was a force at the plate for Georgia Southern last week, batting .412 with two home runs and 13 RBIs as the Eagles went 4-1. The senior was recorded a hit in all five games and drove in three runs in GSU's two-game series split with No. 21 Georgia Tech. Cochrane then exploded with seven RBIs in the series finale against North Carolina Central on Sunday, including a three-run home run in the fifth inning.
Making his second career start, Pardo worked six innings and gave up no earned runs as Appalachian State recorded its first victory over a ranked opponent in 29 years, a 7-5 triumph at No. 20 Miami. In a homecoming of sorts, the Miami native fanned five while scattering four hits. On the season, he is 1-0 with a 0.82 ERA and eight strikeouts in 11 innings on the mound.
