Doyle batted .500 in four games last week while leading Wofford to a series win over The Citadel, its first since joining the SoCon in 1998. The junior from Conway, S.C., had five extra-base hits, including two triples and a home run in Friday's 5-3 series-opening win. His 10 total bases in that game tied for the most in the SoCon this season. Doyle also recorded a pair of doubles in the series while scoring eight runs and swiping two bases.
Rutledge pitched seven strong innings, allowing no runs on just two hits to lead Samford to an 11-0 win at league-leading Elon on Saturday. Rutledge, a native of Tupelo, Miss., struck out a career-high 13 batters in the win, while walking just three hitters. He raised his SoCon-leading strikeout total to 52 on the season while becoming the second conference pitcher to earn his fifth victory.
Other hitters receiving consideration were Davidson's Drew Gadaire, Georgia Southern's Shawn Payne, Samford's Phillip Ervin, Appalachian State's Doug Jones, Western Carolina's Matt Johns, College of Charleston's Rob Kral, The Citadel's William Ladd, Elon's Garrett Koster and UNCG's Trevor Edwards.
