SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Citadel left fielder Drew DeKerlegand has been named the Southern Conference Player of the Week and Samford right-hander C.K. Irby has been named the SoCon Pitcher of the Week for all games Feb. 25 through March 3. The selections are made by the league office.

DeKerlegand hit a league-best .643 and slugged a SoCon-leading 1.143 for the week to help the Bulldogs to a 3-2 mark. The junior from Pearland, Texas, also led the conference with a .750 on-base percentage, 16 total bases, nine hits and eight runs. DeKerlegand had four extra-base hits among his nine on the week.

After opening the week with a 1-for-2 showing against local rival Charleston Southern on Wednesday, DeKerlegand matched his career high with three hits in an 8-0 win over Pittsburgh on Friday. He hit a solo home run, scored three times and reached base five times in the contest against the Panthers, drawing a walk and being hit by a pitch.

He was hit by a pitch and walked again the following day against VCU, adding a hit and a run. In a doubleheader against UNC Asheville on Sunday, DeKerlegand pounded out a career-best four hits in game one, falling a homer short of the cycle, matching his career high with three RBI and scoring three runs. He walked and was hit by another pitch in the second game to reach base twice more.
