Elon Earns Top Seed in SoCon Baseball Tournament - SoConSports.com—Official Web Site of The Southern Conference

SPARTANBURG – Elon University, the 2006 Southern Conference baseball champion, has earned the top seed in this year’s league tournament. The tournament, which will be held in Charleston, SC for the 17th year, will get underway on Tuesday, May 23 at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.

This year’s tournament will include all 10 teams, with Tuesday’s two games involving the bottom four seeds in the regular season standings in a single elimination format. The winners of Tuesday’s games will move on with the other six teams in a double elimination format.

The Phoenix, who were 42-14 overall and 21-6 in league play, will face the winner of No. 8 Appalachian State and No. 9 Davidson Wednesday at 4 p.m.

No. 7 UNC Greensboro and No. 10 Wofford open up the tournament at noon on Tuesday, followed by the ASU-Davidson game at 3:30 p.m.

Furman, the No. 3 seed, is the defending tournament champion. The Paladins won last year as the eight seed.

Game 5 — #1 Elon vs. Winner Game 2, 4 p.m.

Game 6 — #4 Georgia Southern vs. #5 The Citadel, 7:30 p.m.
