ASHEVILLE, NC ? VMI?s sensational freshman Jason Conley today swept the postseason awards as announced by the Southern Conference Sports Media Association.

The 6-4 freshman from Chevy Chase, MD, who leads the nation in scoring with a 29.3 average, was named as the Malcolm U. Pitt Award winner, given annually by the media to the SoCon?s Player of the Year. Conley also received the Freshman of the Year award in voting by league?s media association members. It is the first time that a player has swept both awards in the same season.

Bob McKillop, who led Davidson to a tie for first in the North Division, was voted as the league?s Coach of the Year. It is the third time the media has honored the Wildcat coach, also selecting him as the coach of the year in 1994 and ?96.

Conley was also named to the media association?s all-league first team. He was joined on the first team by College of Charleston guard Jeff Bolton, East Tennessee State guard Dimeco Childress, Georgia Southern Southern guard Sean Peterson and UNC Greensboro guard Courtney Eldridge.

The media association?s second team consists of senior guard Travis Cantrell of The Citadel, junior forward Chris Pearson of Davidson, sophomore forward Zakee Wadood of East Tennessee State, senior forward David Schuck of UNC Greensboro and freshman forward Kevin Martin of Western Carolina.

The third team includes Chattanooga senior guard Toot Young, Furman junior guard Guilherme Da Luz, Furman junior forward Karim Souchu, UNC Greensboro junior forward James Maye and Wofford junior guard Mike Lenzly.
