SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer’s Kate Leone and Central Michigan’s Jocelyne Lemay have been named the Southern Conference women’s lacrosse offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, for all competition Feb. 27 to March 5.
Leone, a senior from White Plains, New York, scored 10 goals in a pair of wins for Mercer last week. The attacker scored five goals in Friday’s 16-6 victory over Gardner-Webb. Leone would duplicate her performance two days later, totaling five goals as the Bears edged out Davidson 13-12.
Leone, who is 4-for-4 in free position goals, was a perfect 2-for-2 in that category last week. Leone leads Mercer in goals (15) and boasts a shots-on goal percentage of .893.
Lemay played a key role in Central Michigan’s 1-1 week. The junior from Peterborough, Ontario, totaled five ground balls and six draw controls against Butler and Cincinnati. In the 19-8 victory over Butler, the defender recorded four draw controls and added two draw controls. Serving as a key part of the offense, Lemay scored four goals against Butler and had just two turnovers total against Butler and Cincinnati.
Mercer hosts Presbyterian on Sunday at 1 p.m., while the Chippewas host Michigan on Sunday at 1 p.m.
