MACON, Ga. – Mercer will make its second consecutive trip to the NCAA Women's Lacrosse Championship as it faces Jacksonville in a play-in match on Tuesday, May 7 at D.B. Milne Field in Jacksonville, Florida.
A start time for the match has yet to be determined. The winner of Tuesday's play-in match will face No. 8 national seed Michigan in Ann Arbor, Mich. on Friday.
The Bears (10-9) and the Dolphins (16-3) are familiar foes; the two teams were ASUN Conference rivals from 2015-17 and have played one another at least once in all five years since Mercer started its women's lacrosse program. Jacksonville came away with a 21-6 win over Mercer in Macon on April 20 this season. The Bears will seek their first-ever win over Jacksonville on Tuesday.
In just its fifth season since the program was established (2015), Mercer is making its second consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance. The Bears earned the Southern Conference's automatic bid for the second straight season by defeating Furman in the conference title match on Saturday in Greenville, S.C.
Mercer is riding a three-match win streak entering the tournament. Its 10 wins are the second most in program history behind their 13-win season in 2017.
