NEW ORLEANS – One Southern Conference men's track and field team, four women's programs, six male student-athletes and six female student-athletes were honored for their academics by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Thursday.
Wofford's men's team and the women's programs from Furman, Samford, Chattanooga and Wofford were among the 361 teams honored for having at least a 3.00 team grade point average by the USTFCCCA. Among that total, 220 of those were women's teams and 141 were men's programs.
In addition, a total of 624 men and 874 women earned USTFCCCA All-Academic individual honors during the 2017-18 track & field seasons.
Furman had eight student-athletes earn the honor in Josh Brickell, Mason Coppi, Frank Lara and Jake Ogden on the men's side and Allie Buchalski, Savannah Carnahan, Kristlin Gear and Emma Grace Hurley on the women's side.
Samford placed Hugh Duggan and Arsène Guillorel on the men's team and Selena Popp and Haley Ward on the women's.
To qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have met at least one of the following athletic standards:
- For the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org.
- For the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
