The Citadel Finishes Strong in Outdoor Opener | Results
SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Citadel track and field teams competed in the Tiger Orange and Blue Classic in Savannah, Georgia, to begin their outdoor season on Saturday.
For the women’s team, freshman Jessy Page broke The Citadel’s freshman record in the hammer throw with a toss of 47.60 meters to take first place for the day and third place on the all-time record. Page also finished first in the discus with a throw of 40.33 meters. Junior Asyria Daniels placed second in the long jump with a leap of 5.11 and took fifth in the triple jump in 10.65.
Junior Mady Riegel won first place in the javelin with a throw of 39.95 meters.
For the men’s team, senior Richard Bertrand and sophomore Daniel Andrews took first place in their respective events. Bertrand finished the discuss with a toss of 40.18 meters and Andrews took the hammer throw with a toss of 46.00 meters.
Junior Derrick Freeland won first place in the shot put with a toss of 13.16 meters. Junior Griffin Miller also captured the first place spot in the javelin throw with a toss of 52.76 meters.
Senior Malik Diggs took second place in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.10 seconds. Diggs also finished third in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 56.71 seconds.
Graduate student Dondray Copeland took second place in the triple jump in a jump 13.41 meters. He also placed third the long jump with a leap of 6.38.
The Bulldogs will continue on in their outdoor road tour in the CSU Spring Break Invitational on Friday, March 17. Live stats and full results from the invitational will be available at CitadelSports.com.
UNCG Opens Outdoor Season at Seahawk Invitational | Results
WILMINGTON, N.C. – Opening up the outdoor portion of its 2016-17 schedule, UNCG women’s track and field posted favorable results in its limited races Saturday at the UNCW hosted Seahawk Invitational at the Harold Greene Track and Field Complex.
The Spartans’ highest finish came in the 4x100 meter relay, when the team of Amber Dickens, Nautica Friday, Mikkayla Hailey and Alexis Rice posted a 53.07 to take 11th.
In the mile, Kayla Wetherell finished 31st, crossing the finish line in 5:49.54. Not far behind was Holly Mordoff in 38th, timing in at 5:54.60.
UNCG closed out the meet in the 200 meters, in which Rice was the high finisher for the Blue and Gold with a time of 27.34, good for 35th-place.
