PRINCETON, N.J. – The VMI track and field teams got off to a good start on the first day of the ECAC/IC4A Outdoor Track and Field Championships contested Saturday at Princeton University’s Weaver Stadium in Princeton, New Jersey.
Jahanzib Shahbaz finished 10th in the IC4A 800-meter run with a new lifetime-best time of 1:51.66 to highlight the day for the men’s team. Freshman Gavin Jenkins also had a solid performance in the IC4A 3000-meter steeplechase to arrive in 11th in 9:12.38, the fourth-fastest time in the Southern Conference this season.
In the IC4A men’s long jump, junior James Granderson came in 16th place with a distance of 6.42 meters.
The VMI men’s 4x100-meter unit of Chris Ferrill, Jordin Poindexter, Caleb Minus and Blaine Ashton finished in 13th place in the IC4A competition for the event in 41.95 seconds.
The Keydets resume competition Sunday with multiple athletes competing starting with Sarah Leckman in the ECAC women’s shot put at 9:30 a.m.
Competition should wrap up around 3:45 p.m. for VMI with the men’s 4x400 relay.
