BOONE, N.C. – The Wofford College men's and women's indoor track and field teams began the 2017-18 season at the Mountaineer Indoor hosted by Appalachian State at the Holmes Center. The Terriers posted numerous top-five finishes and three new school records were established.
Amber Lust set a new school record in the 55 meters at 7.27 and added a new school record in the 55 meters hurdles at 8:29. Hannah Steelman ran the 3,000 meters in 9:43.67, breaking the school record in the event by over 30 seconds. Mary Wilson Stewart and Anya Bunao were second and third, respectively, in the 3,000. Sara Jane Hayes was third in the 200 meters, McLeod Dean was first in the 400 meters, Madison Paraskeva took first place in the 800 meters, and Jamie Barnett was second in the mile. The women's 4x300 relay was second and the 4x400 relay was first.
Sam Larkin was third in the 200 meters, Cody Chavis took fourth in the 400 meters, Ford McCoy was third in the 800 meters, Jack Zemp was first in the mile at 4:30.53, Cisco Ferre took first place in the 3,000 meters, Isaiah Ellis was third in the 55 meter hurdles, Omar Mingo was third in the long jump, and Longinus Nnodim was fourth in the shot put. The men's 4x300 team was fourth and the 4x400 relay was first.
For the women, Appalachian State was first with 90 points, followed by Wofford with 54, Gardner-Webb with 40, Queens with 10 and UNC Asheville with 2 points. On the men's side, Appalachian State won with 96 points.
After the semester break, the teams will be back in action on Jan. 13-14 at the ETSU Invitational in Johnson City, Tennessee.
