SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference named its football players of the week today for all games played Sept. 10. Western Carolina’s Tyrie Adams was named the Offensive Player of the Week, while The Citadel’s Dee Delaney earned the Defensive Player of the Week award. Samford’s Austin Barnard was tabbed as the Special Teams Player of the Week. The players of the week are selected by the league office.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Tyrie Adams, Western Carolina, Fr., QB, St. Petersburg, Fla.
Redshirt freshman quarterback Tyrie Adams recorded a school-record 510 yards of total offense in his home debut as the Catamounts topped Gardner-Webb, 44-14. Adams completed 36-of-43 passes for 427 yards and five touchdowns in the win. The St. Petersburg, Fla., native added 13 carries for 83 yards on the ground. The five touchdown passes tied a school record, while his 427 yards passing fell 47 yards shy of the school mark.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Dee Delaney, The Citadel, Jr., DB, Beaufort, S.C.
Dee Delaney helped the Bulldogs’ defense hold Furman to 14 points as The Citadel claimed a 19-14 win Saturday night. The junior’s first interception came late in the first quarter when Delaney picked off P.J. Blazejowski at The Citadel’s 35-yard line. He picked off his second pass of the game early in the fourth quarter with the Bulldogs trailing, 14-13. Delaney added four tackles in the win.

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Austin Barnard, Samford, Sr., P, Fayetteville, Ga.
Austin Barnard handled the punting and kickoff duties for the Bulldogs on Saturday as Samford earned a 35-29 win at Central Arkansas. Barnard punted 10 times and averaged 46.0 yards per kick, including a long of 64 yards. He forced four fair catches, punted two balls over 50 yards and dropped five punts inside the Central Arkansas 20-yard line. The senior kicked off six times, averaging 59.5 yard per kick and producing three touchbacks.
