BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Samford senior defensive back Omari Williams has been selected to play in the 2018 Dream Bowl, to be held Monday, Jan. 15, at Salem Football Stadium in Salem, Virginia.
Kickoff for the college all-star game is scheduled for 11 a.m. (CT)/12 p.m. (ET). A banquet will be held Saturday evening at the Holiday Inn Tanglewood-Roanoke. The players will be split into two teams, the Patriots and the Crusaders, with Williams listed on the roster for the Patriots.
This year's game marks the sixth Dream Bowl. The game was named the Dream Bowl to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his famous "I have a dream," speech.
During the 2017 season, Williams tallied 64 total tackles, including 45 solo stops. He tied for the team lead in interceptions with three and led the squad in pass break-ups with 11. Williams was named first- team All-SoCon at the conclusion of the season.
For his four-year Samford career, Williams picked off 10 passes and had 32 pass break-ups. He finished his career with 195 total tackles, 131 solo.
Samford posted a record of 8-4 overall and 6-2 in SoCon play during the 2017 season. Samford reached the FCS playoffs in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 1992.
