SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Nine Southern Conference football student-athletes earned spots on the Academic All-District Football Teams selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, CoSIDA announced Thursday.

ETSU offensive lineman Eddie Gajardo, Chattanooga wide receiver Bryce Nunnelly and defensive back Jerrell Lawson and VMI defensive back A.J. Smith earned spots on the District 3 team. Furman offensive lineman Bo Layton, Mercer wide receiver Tucker Cannon and defensive linemen Dorian Kithcart and Jack Raines and Wofford offensive lineman Blake Jeresaty earned spots on the District 4 squad. Nunnelly, Smith and Jeresaty earned the distinction for the second straight season, with Smith going on to earn second-team Academic All-America honors in 2018.

Nominees must have at least a 3.30 grade point average. All nine SoCon honorees advance to the Academic All-America ballot. First- and second-team Academic All-America selections will be announced in early December.
