MACON, Ga. – Mercer head coach Bobby Lamb has been appointed as a member of the NCAA Division I Football Oversight Committee for 2018-19, as announced by the NCAA Office. Lamb’s term expires in June 2019, but he is eligible for reappointment.

Lamb replaces UTSA Vice President and Athletics Director Lisa Campos, who assumed a position on the NCAA Division I Council. He is one of 17 members of the committee and one of just three from the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) level.

“I am honored to be named to the Football Oversight Committee and I am extremely proud to represent Mercer University and the Southern Conference,” Lamb said. “I look forward to serving the game of football and taking strides toward promoting our student-athletes’ growth alongside various leaders in the industry.”

Lamb will lead Mercer’s football program into its sixth season of play this fall after returning to the gridiron following a 72-year hiatus. He has guided the Bears to three wins over nationally ranked FCS opponents and is a former finalist for FCS National Coach of the Year. The Augusta, Ga., native has over three decades of experience – playing and coaching – in college football. He played quarterback at Furman (1982-85) before joining the Paladins’ coaching staff for the following 24 years, the final nine of which he served as head coach.

About the NCAA Division I Football Oversight Committee

The Football Oversight Committee ensures that appropriate oversight of football for both the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) and FCS is maintained; enhance the development of the sport and make recommendations related to regular-season and postseason football. The committee prioritizes enhancement of the student-athlete educational experience (academically and athletically), and in doing so, promote student-athletes’ personal growth and leadership development. It works in conjunction with appropriate governance entities to provide solutions to issues impacting the health and safety of football student-athletes.

The Football Oversight Committee supervises procedures for licensing of postseason bowls and qualifications and/or selection procedures for the FCS Championship. The committee reviews recommendations from the NCAA Division I Football Championship Committee and processes other issues related to the administration of the FCS Championship. The committee assumes many of the duties of the former NCAA Division I Football Issues Committee and provides direction to the NCAA Football Rules Committee regarding playing rules governing FBS and FCS football. The committee is comprised of representatives from each divisional subgroup that sponsors football.
