SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Three Southern Conference teams earned preseason rankings in the STATS FCS Top 25, with Wofford placing 10th, Samford 11th and Furman 23rd.

Western Carolina, Mercer and The Citadel also received votes in the poll.

Wofford, Samford and Furman each finished in the top 25 last season, with the Terriers finishing at No. 6, the Bulldogs at No. 18 and the Paladins at No. 19. All three played in the postseason, with Wofford downing Furman to reach the quarterfinals.

Samford was the preseason pick to with the Southern Conference in balloting of the league’s coaches and media.

A national panel of sports information and media relations directors, broadcasters, writers and other dignitaries select the STATS FCS Top 25. A first-place vote is worth 25 points, a second-place vote 24 points, all the way down to one point for a 25th-place vote.

The Top 25 will be released every Monday afternoon during the regular season, except for Sunday morning, Nov. 18, prior to the selection of the 24-team FCS playoff field. A final Top 25 will follow the FCS championship game, which will be held Jan. 5 in Frisco, Texas.
