SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference named its football players of the week Monday for all games played Sept. 8. Chattanooga wide receiver Bryce Nunnelly and Samford placekicker Mitchell Fineran repeated as Offensive Player of the Week and Special Teams Player of the Week, respectively, while Samford linebacker Aaron Harris was named the Defensive Player of the Week. The players of the week are selected by the league office.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Bryce Nunnelly, Chattanooga, So., WR, Cleveland, Tenn.
Chattanooga wide receiver Bryce Nunnelly earned his second straight offensive award after a career performance in the Mocs’ 29-28 win at The Citadel on Saturday. In addition to hauling in two touchdowns and a career-best 268 receiving yards on just 10 catches, Nunnelly threw the winning 2-point conversion pass in overtime to secure the win. His receiving total was the third-best in a game in SoCon history and was 6 yards shy of the school record set in 2010. Nunnelly, who had a 76-yard TD reception in the first quarter Saturday, set a school record for receiving yards in consecutive games, as he has 429 through the Mocs’ first two contests of the season.
Nunnelly was also named the STATS FCS National Offensive Player of the Week.

Other nominees: Tee Mitchell (Mercer), Kelvin McKnight (Samford) and Joe Newman (Wofford).

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Aaron Harris, Samford, Sr., LB, Norcross, Ga.
Samford linebacker Aaron Harris had a game-high 13 tackles in the Bulldogs’ 36-26 loss at FBS Florida State on Saturday. In a game the Bulldogs led until late in the fourth quarter, the senior from Norcross, Georgia, had nine solo stops. He also had one tackle for loss for 4 yards.

Other nominees: Will Coneway (Mercer), Isaiah Mack (Chattanooga) and Demetri Redwood (Wofford).

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Mitchell Fineran, Samford, Fr., PK, Fort Valley, Ga.
Samford placekicker Mitchell Fineran earned the second weekly honor of his young career after another all-around effort at FBS Florida State on Saturday. The freshman from Fort Valley, Georgia, hit both of his field goal attempts, from 30 and 36 yards, and was 2-for-2 on extra-point opportunities. Fineran also kicked off six times, averaging 63.7 yards per kick. Fineran’s first field goal staked the Bulldogs to a 16-7 lead in the first quarter, while his second made it a 26-21 game in Samford’s favor with just under eight minutes remaining in the contest.

Other nominees: Keyonte Sessions (The Citadel), Cole Fisher (Mercer) and Luke Carter (Wofford).
