SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference named its football players of the week Monday for all games played Sept. 16. The Citadel quarterback Dominique Allen was named the Offensive Player of the Week, while ETSU linebacker Dylan Weigel was named the Defensive Player of the Week and Samford’s Austin Barnard was voted the Special Teams Player of the Week. The players of the week are selected by the league office.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Dominique Allen, The Citadel, Sr., QB, Richmond Hill, Ga.
The Citadel quarterback Dominique Allen helped the Bulldogs to a 31-25 road win over ETSU on Saturday, throwing for 104 yards and a touchdown and running for 52 yards and another score. Allen’s 104 yards through the air came on just four completed passes, including a 44-yard strike to Josh LeBlanc with less than 5 minutes to play that led to a Citadel field goal to help seal the win. The senior from Richmond Hill, Georgia, also had a 1-yard scoring run in the third quarter that brought the Bulldogs to within three points at 17-14 to start the team’s rally from a 10-point deficit.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Dylan Weigel, ETSU, R-Jr., LB, Pickerington, Ohio
ETSU linebacker Dylan Weigel had 19 tackles in the Bucs’ 31-25 loss to No. 13 The Citadel on Saturday. The redshirt junior from Pickerington, Ohio, had six solo stops and added a quarterback hurry on the day. The 19 total tackles were the second-most in Weigel’s career and the most in the SoCon this season. The mark also ties for second in the FCS this season and is good for third-most in ETSU history.

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Austin Barnard, Samford, Sr., P, Fayetteville, Ga.
Samford punter Austin Barnard punted five times for an average of 43.8 yards in the Bulldogs’ contest at FBS No. 13 Georgia on Saturday. The senior from Fayetteville, Georgia, also handled kickoff duties and averaged 64.0 yards with two touchbacks on three kicks. Of Barnard’s five punts, two were fair caught and one put Georgia inside its 20-yard line.
