SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ESTU quarterback Austin Herink has been named the General Shale Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for competition held Sept. 20 to Sept. 26, the league office announced Wednesday.
The redshirt junior from Cleveland, Tennessee, led the Bucs to a 26-23 overtime victory against Mercer on Saturday. Herink threw for a career-high 26 completions and 284 yards to go with one touchdown to help lift ETSU to victory. Herink also ran for 34 yards and a touchdown, leading game-tying and game-winning drives in the fourth quarter and overtime, respectively.
Herink, a sport management major, holds a 3.68 grade point average and earned a 3.94 GPA last semester. Herink and the Bucs will travel to Furman to face the Paladins on Saturday.
