SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman tight end Andy Schumpert has been named the General Shale Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for competition held Sept. 27 to Oct. 3, the league office announced Wednesday.
The senior from Brentwood, Tennessee, caught four passes in Furman’s 56-35 victory over ETSU on Saturday. Despite missing time throughout the week due to an illness, Schumpert totaled 72 yards and a pair of touchdowns, including the go-ahead score in the second quarter.
Schumpert, an accounting major, holds a 3.77 grade point average. Schumpert is also a member of the Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society and has been named to the SoCon Academic Honor Roll three times. Schumpert was also the recipient of the 2017 Lawrence Kessler Award for Excellence in Accounting.
