SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Aaron Templeton and Allie Buchalski have been named Southern Conference men’s and women’s runner of the week, respectively, for competition that took place Sept. 29 to Oct. 1, the league office announced Wednesday. The award is the second of the year for Templeton and third of the year for Buchalski.
Templeton, a junior, led the 12th-ranked Paladins with a seventh-place finish at the 16th Annual Louisville Sports Commission Cross Country Classic on Saturday at E.P. “Tom” Sawyer State Park, the site of this year’s NCAA Cross Country Championships. As a team, Furman finished second out of 30 teams, behind only top-ranked North Arizona. The Knoxville, Tennessee, native completed the 8k course in 23:40.07.
Buchalski, a senior, lead Furman to a third-place finish in Louisville, Kentucky, on Saturday in a competitive race that featured 32 teams total. The Johns Creek, Georgia, native finished third to lead all Paladins with a time of 16:42.19 on the 5k course. Furman scored 121 points in the race, with only No. 13 Boise State and No. 18 Wisconsin finishing before them.
The Paladins are back in action this Saturday at the Gene Mullin Invitational in Greenville, South Carolina.
Also nominated for men’s runner of the week: Will Sandin (UNCG), Ryan Gebelein (Chattanooga) and Jahanzib Shabaz (VMI).
Also nominated for women’s runner of the week: Taylor Delaney (UNCG), Anna Long (Samford), Emily Poole (Chattanooga) and Logan Luckett (VMI).
