SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Quintin McKinnish and Emily Lane have been named Southern Conference men’s and women’s runner of the week, respectively, for competition that took place Oct. 6-8, the league office announced Wednesday. The award is the first of the year for both Paladins.
McKinnish, a senior, placed fifth at the Gene Mullin Invitational hosted by Furman last Saturday. The Paladins’ men’s team placed second in the race, with Georgia coming in first. McKinnish, a Morristown, Tennessee, native, stopped the clock at 16:01.72 on the 5k course. Competing in his fourth race this season, McKinnish was the only Furman runner to place in the top 10 in the race and it was his second top-10 finish of the season after placing 10th at the Eye Opener.
Lane, a freshman, led the Paladins with a time of 18:46.65 on the 5k course, taking third place on Saturday morning. As a team, Furman took third place in the competition, with SEC member Georgia claiming first. A Cary, North Carolina, native, Lane was running in her third event of the year, as she also claimed 12th place at the Furman XC Classic and competed at the Louisville Invitational. The Paladins have finished in the top five in all three races in which Lane has competed this season.
The Paladins are back in action this Friday at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational in Madison, Wisconsin, and at the HPU Vert Invitational in High Point, North Carolina.
