INDIANAPOLIS – Appalachian State’s Randall Diabe and Campbell's Quentin Perez were among the 47 at-large selections for the 2018 NCAA Wrestling Championships announced on Tuesday. The two at-large selections moved the Southern Conference total to 14 overall bids.
Seven of eight SoCon schools will be represented in the 2018 NCAA tournament. Appalachian State leads the way with four representatives, while Chattanooga and SIUE bost three NCAA selections. Campbell has two representatives and Gardner-Webb has one.
Appalachian State's Irvin Enriquez (141) and Forrest Przybysz (174) both won their respective titles at the SoCon Championship, with Alan Clotheir (184) receiving an NCAA allocation and Diabe earning an at-large big.
Perez, who entered the SoCon Championship with a 22-7 overall mark, finished third at 165 pounds. Perez will be joined by Campbell heavywieght Jere Heino, who won his respective division at the SoCon Championship.
Diabe entered the SoCon Championship as the No. 1 seed before being upset by The Citadel's Sawyer Root. The duo, along with champion Scottie Boykin (Chattanooga), will all compete at 197 pounds.
The brackets and seeding will be released on NCAA.com on Wednesday at 6 p.m. EST.
