SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Campbell 165-pounder Quentin Perez has been named the Southern Conference wrestler of the week for all competition from Nov. 15-21, the league office announced Wednesday.
Perez went 3-1 to finish third at the Navy Classic in his weight class Saturday, picking up a win over a ranked opponent in the third-place match.
The junior from Arlington, Texas, opened his day with an 11-2 major decision over Columbia’s Laurence Kosoy and followed that with an 8-7 win over Purdue’s Jacob Morrissey. After dropping a 10-4 decision to eventual champion Drew Daniels of host Navy in the semifinals, Perez earned a 7-5 win over 13th-ranked Jonathn Schleifer of Princeton in the third-place bout.
The Camels, who finished eighth in the 17-team field, will be back in action Dec. 3 at the Hofstra Duals in Hempstead, New York.
Also nominated: Alan Clothier (Appalachian State), Tony Palumbo (Davidson), Nate Higgins (SIUE) and Scottie Boykin (Chattanooga).
