SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford senior Garrett Moores has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week for all competition from March 8-14. The selection is made by the league office.

Moores won the Grover Page Classic at the par-72, 6,776-yard Jackson Country Club in Jackson, Tennessee, on Monday and Tuesday. The tournament win was the first of Moores’ collegiate career.

The Huntsville, Alabama, native fired a 4-under 212 to earn a one-stroke win over runner-up Hunter Richardson of tournament host UT Martin. Moores posted three rounds of par or better, opening with consecutive rounds of 2-under 70 to share the tournament lead after the first day before closing with an even-par 72 to become Samford’s first individual medalist since 2013.

Moores helped Samford to a second-place team finish in the eight-team, 48-player field.

The weekly award is the first of Moores’ career.

Samford returns to action at the Furman Invitational in Greenville, South Carolina, on March 24-26.

Also nominated: Mateusz Gradecki (ETSU), Bryce Howell (Furman), Etienne Brault (Chattanooga) and Dylan MacQueen (Western Carolina).
