UNCG's Hendrix advances to sectional qualifying for US Open

DURHAM, N.C. – UNCG men’s golfer Bryce Hendrix claimed one of five spots in a US Open Local Qualifier with an 18-hole score of 4-under 68 at the par-72, 7,128-yard Duke University Golf Club on Wednesday. Tying with two others for the top score one the day, Hendrix moves on to the 36-hole sectional qualifier on June 4 and will find out where he will compete on May 25.

Nick Lyerly tied with two others for sixth place at 2-under 70 and won a playoff for one of two alternate spots. Also competing was volunteer assistant coach Ryan Heisey (3-over 75) and Michael Wicker (8-over 80).

There are 112 local qualifying sites for the US Open from April 30-May 17. All but one of the 12 sectional qualifiers will be on June 4.
