SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNCG’s Bryce Hendrix has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week for all competition from April 3-9. The selection is made by the league office.
Hendrix won the Irish Creek Intercollegiate at the Club at Irish Creek in Kannapolis, North Carolina, over the weekend in school-record fashion. The senior from Greenville, North Carolina, shot a 20-under-par 193 in running away with his first collegiate win, finishing 11 strokes clear of the runner-up in the 96-man field. Hendrix turned in three rounds in the 60s, opening with a 5-under 66 and following that up with a 6-under 65 Saturday before closing with a 9-under 62 on Sunday. Along the way, Hendrix set school records for 18 holes (62), 54 holes (193), birdies (21) and score against par (-20).
The weekly award is the third of Hendrix’s career, as he also took the honor once each in 2017 and 2018.
Hendrix’s efforts paved the way for the Spartans’ third team win of the season, as UNCG finished at 18-under-par 834 to claim an eight-stroke victory over the rest of the 16-team field.
The Spartans are back in action at the SoCon Men’s Golf Championship at Pinehurst No. 9 in Pinehurst, North Carolina, on April 21-23. UNCG is the defending champion of the event.
Also nominated: Jack Rhea (ETSU), Scott Purvis (Furman), Stanton Schorr (Mercer), Aaron Walker (Samford) and Walker Simas (Wofford).
