ROCKY FACE, Ga. – It was a much better day at the Farm as the Chattanooga Mocs improved 24 strokes, shooting 2-over par 290 in round two of the Carpet Capital Collegiate. That propelled the Mocs past Troy into 14th, just four strokes behind Virginia.
Will Porter led the resurgence with a 2-under 70. It’s a career-best mark for the sophomore, who played just 17 rounds his freshman campaign. Porter had four birdies and 12 pars on his day with just two bogeys.
It was a strong performance putting red numbers on the board. After just seven birdies in the opening 18, the Mocs posted 11, including eight in their first nine holes.
Luke Long’s 71 gives him the squad’s low 36-hole total of 148. The team score was rounded out by Phillip Hickam with 74 and A.J. Lintunen’s 75. Lake Johnson’s 76 served as the drop score.
Hickam is right behind Long with 149, followed closely by Porter’s 151. Lintunen (156) is one stroke ahead of Johnson (157).
Florida remains in the lead by just a shot. The Gators’ 289 puts them at 6-under, just ahead of Georgia Tech and Alabama at 5-under. The Crimson Tide had the low round of the day with 277. UF’s Alejandro Tosti followed up his opening 66 with a 4-under 68 to maintain his individual lead.
Sunday’s final round starts on the 10th hole at 8:22 a.m. The Mocs are paired with Troy and Virginia. Admission for the event, just 30 minutes south of downtown Chattanooga, is free.
