SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU junior Geuntae Kim has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week for all competition from April 4-10. The selection is made by the league office.
Kim won the Wofford Invitational at Country Club of Spartanburg, rallying from a seven-shot deficit in Tuesday’s final round to post an 11-under-par 205 to top the 57-man field and help the Bucs to the team title. The junior from Daegu, South Korea, opened with a 1-under 71 in Monday’s first round and added a 4-under 68 in the afternoon loop to sit in a tie for third at 5-under 139 after day one. Kim then turned in a career-best 6-under 66 in Tuesday’s bogey-free final round, firing birdies on his final two holes to pick up the two-stroke victory and his second collegiate win.
Kim’s 54-hole total tied for the third-best score in the 30-year history of the tournament. He totaled one eagle, 14 birdies and 34 pars for the tournament.
As a team, ETSU won running away, firing 12-under 276 in Tuesday’s final round to overtake tournament host and day-one leader Wofford for a 13-stroke victory. With the win, ETSU has now won at least one tournament in each of the last four seasons, including each of the last three SoCon Men’s Golf Championships. Kim is the reigning SoCon individual champion.
The Bucs wrap up their regular season at the Mason Rudolph Championship at the Vanderbilt Legends Club. The tournament starts Friday and concludes Sunday.
Also nominated: Stanton Schorr (Mercer), Bryce Hendrix (UNCG), Luke Long (Chattanooga), Bright Julamool (Western Carolina) Nick Willis (Wofford).
