MALIBU, CALIF. - Furman women's tennis player Katarina Kozarov won the consolation singles championship match at the Oracle ITA Masters, while Mercer men's tennis player Olivier Stuart advanced to the final of the consolation bracet before falling to No. 30 August Holmgren on Sunday.
Kozarov, a junior from Novi Sad, Serbia, downed Northern Kentucky's Margita Sunjic (6-1, 6-2), Quinnipiac's Dominque Vasile (6-3, 6-0) and Austin Peay's Lidia Yanes Garcia (6-3, 5-7, 7-6) before emerging victorious from the consolation bracket with a 7-5, 6-4 win over No. 109 Bianca Mok of Denver.
Stuart, the first player in program history to qualify for the Oracle ITA Masters, won matches against Illinois State's Igor Kolaric (6-1, 6-3), Grand Canyon's Lorenzo Fucile (6-3, 3-6, 6-4) and Fresno State's Zdenek Derkas (6-4, 6-3) before suffering the loss to San Diego's Holmgren (6-1, 6-4).
Created in 2015, the Oracle ITA Masters has established itself as one of the premier events of the collegiate tennis season. The tournament features singles draws of 32 men and 32 women, and a mixed doubles event with a 32-player draw. Players are chosen based upon conference representation.
